Thinking about liposuction

Cankles weighing you down? Feeling a touch pear-shaped? If you’ve been thinking about liposuction, you may be relieved to know some of these answers. So let’s get to it!

Am I a suitable candidate for liposuction?

The best candidate for liposuction are those with isolated pockets of stubborn fat that won’t respond well to diet and exercise. These candidates are not looking for a cure for obesity, and have realistic expectations. The candidate should have good skin tone with minimal excess skin.

What type of liposuction is best?

There are many types of liposuction advertise on the market, some surrounded by hype. Perhaps the best thing to keep in mind with the subject is the phrase, “Newer does not equal better”. For example, there’s laser,  ultrasound assisted, tumescent. However, after performing liposuction for over 18 years (watching numerous trends come and go), Dr Feldman prefers manual tumescent liposuction.

Will the effects of liposuction last?

Providing you maintain a healthy lifestyle, the effects of liposuction should be long-lasting. Being careful of your calorific intake is a must so as to not increase the size of your existing fat cells, as well as store fat in other areas of your body. As with any individual that has not had liposuction, extra calories get stored as fat. And, it is important to remember that although both diet and exercise are extremely important in maintaining a healthy weight, restricting calories is far more important than exercise.

Is it safe?

Today, if you choose a reputable, experienced liposuction doctor – then yes, liposuction is relatively safe. However, any surgical procedure carries risks. Complications associated with liposuction may include asymmetry, skin rippling, excessive loose skin, poor scarring, abnormal skin pigmentation, bleeding, infection, seroma formation (fluid accumulation under the skin), deep vein thrombosis, cardiac and pulmonary complications, swelling, poor wound healing, bruising, and a potential need for revision surgery.

As with all surgical procedures, it is imperative to choose a doctor with extensive experience. Dr Feldman  M.B.B.S (MELB), F.F.M.A.C.C.S, DIP.LIPOPLASTY has treated well over 1,000 patients over the last 18 years and holds an impeccable track record.

Before booking your surgery, we recommend you seek the opinions of two different doctors before choosing your preferred doctor.
